The source for Mary Merriam is Torrey's New England Marriages although in looking at his book I see Torrey does question his own notation and appears to disprove it. Per Torrey: TAYLOR, William (-1696) & Mary [MERRIAM? In the book, Merriam Genealogy in England and America, there is no MARY as a daughter of Joseph Merriam and Sarah Goldstone (page 36). Furthermore, William Taylor married HANNAH, the daughter of George MERRIAM and Susanna RAVEN. Page 38 in the Pope book (available now through Google Books). I also have run across several places where the first wife of William TAYLOR is given as Mary JOHNSON. If you run across any more evidence in this matter, I would appreciate your contacting me.
