Later he was hog reave and constable.1675: He served in the Indian Colonial Wars against the Indian Chief King Phillip and his warriors. During the fall of 1675, he served with troops under Captain Daniel henchman and is so recorded in a document dated 3 Sep 1675. 1676: Later he was at Lancaster, Massachusetts. where the troops encamped 10 Feb 1676. On 21 Feb 1676, the troops were Medfield, Massachusetts, serving under the subordinate command of Lieut. Edward Oakes; as recorded in document dated 24 Apr 1676. John Hastings 2nd, son of Deacon Thomas and Margaret (Cheney) Hastings, born in Watertown, March 1st, 1654, married, June 18th, 1679, Abigail, dau. of Lieut. John and Abigail Hammond of Watertown, born June 21, 1656."In 1690 her father's assessment was the largest in town, and she received from his estate what in those early days of the Colony was called quite a property. Mr. Hastings's homestead was in that part of Water- town that, in 1737, was made a separate town, Waltham. In the old graveyard in that town is a gravestone bearing date of his death, March 28, 1717-8. Within ten days both had died, leaving eight children.From: Leonard R. Cutter: In memoriam. John Hastings Sr - Militia Roles
John Hastings Sr. served in the Indian Colonial Wars against the Indian Chief King Phillip and his warriors. During the fall of 1675, he served with troops under Captain Daniel Henchman and is so recorded in document dated September 3, 1675. Later he was at Lancaster, Mass. where the troops encamped February 10, 1676 and at Medfield, Mass. on February 21, 1676 serving under the subordinate command of Lieut. Edward Oakes and is so recorded in document dated April 24, 1676. This is the same year that Phillip (Met-a-com-et) Sachem of the Wampanoag Indians died.
